April Showers Bring May Flowers for Cinematographer @DPHalcyon
April showers bring May flowers - As the saying goes, the residents of Humboldt County sure got their share of Mother Nature this month with rain, sleet, wind, clouds and sunshine. Springtime is a beautiful time of year with the first spring flowers being typically lilacs, irises, lilies, tulips, daffodils and dandelions. This month was another challenging month especially with the new season raining at least seventy-five percent of the month if not more. This month my favorite times to go out and get the weather shots before going to the news station were sunny days where there were lots of wind and clouds and directly after a storm with the ultimate time being twilight. I was able to catch a truly awesome sunset in Eureka and it was in fact right after a storm. I remember going to the North Coast Co Op for lunch and grabbed a sandwich. While walking into the store I noticed that the evening sky was particularly pretty as the sun was just peeking out from some cumulus clouds so the light was just incredible. By the time lunch was over it was closing in on 8pm and I returned to the station. I walked in and saw my producer and had mentioned how beautiful the sky was. He turned to me and said, go out and get some sunset shots. I proceeded to go towards the boardwalk and started setting up in parking lot just before the boardwalk. You will see that show during the ending credits. Next I proceeded to the boardwalk. I set up and captured a beautiful pick and black sunset video image shot with two people walking in the frame which totally adds to the image. This shot was a definite hit back at the station. The shot ran for both the 10pm news for Fox and the 11pm news show for ABC. Both times the anchors had mentioned how beautiful the shot was. Some other favorites of the month were the purple flowers shot and the beach scenes. All footage was taken with the Nikon D3300. The lenses used were: Nikkor 18-55mm and Nikkor 24-120mm - 30fps. Enjoy my weather collage of April video shots for KAEF 23 ABC and KBVU 28 Fox.
